NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) joined Stratford Mayor John Harkins, and Ted Lane and Jeff Loureiro of Point Stratford Renewal to unveil the strategy for revitalizing the Stratford Army Engine Plant site. The sale of the site from the Army to Point Stratford Renewal was announced last October 30.

“After years of working to redevelop this site for the betterment of our community, I am thrilled to see this project reach the great moment we are at today,” DeLauro said. “The revitalization of the army engine plant will mean more jobs and more economic activity in Stratford. When we lost the Engine Plant we lost one of Stratford’s largest employers. Today we finally begin to fill that hole. By revitalizing and rebuilding our communities through infrastructure investments like this, we help ensure that our cities and our nation can continue to grow and compete and that we can maintain a better way of life.”

Harkins said: “The successful redevelopment of the Army Engine Plant site is critical to Stratford’s economic revitalization. We have been able to get the local, state and federal governments together to help move this project forward. Along with officials at the state and federal levels, Rep. Rosa DeLauro’s voice throughout this process has been most helpful. I look forward to working with all the parties involved to help bring this project to its fruition.”

“Special thanks to Rep. Rosa DeLauro for her assistance with the sale agreement signed recently by PSR and the Army. PSR is looking forward to redeveloping the SAEP site into a transformative waterfront destination. We look forward to working with the Town, State and Federal governments to make this redevelopment a reality," said Jeff Loureiro of Point Stratford Renewal.

Since the Stratford Army Engine Plant closed, DeLauro has worked with all interested parties to find a way to rebuild the site in a way that strengthens the community. DeLauro has worked hard with Mayor Harkins, as well as his predecessor Mayor Miron and past Town Manager Mark Barnhart to make sure the serious environmental concerns at the site were addressed and the redevelopment would benefit the entire community.

Two years ago DeLauro brought the Army and the General Services Administration together to meet with her and Mayor Harkins. That meeting yielded a comprehensive long-term plan that enabled the process to move forward.
