Will Be Joined by Reps. Slaughter, Grayson in Press Call Wednesday at 2pm to Discuss Administration’s Failure to Complete TPP Agreement

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today in response to President Obama’s remarks on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). DeLauro will be holding a press call Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. to mark the end of the Asian Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) and discuss widespread opposition to the proposed trade deal, particularly its failure to include currency manipulation provisions, and implications for Fast Track authority. This past June President Obama had set APEC as the latest deadline to conclude TPP negotiations.

“Once again, the Obama Administration has failed to complete and sign any TPP agreement, despite the President’s own repeated deadlines. Significant, unresolved issues with other countries remain, not to mention the fact Congress is far from certain to approve this flawed proposal. Several key issues are unresolved, which threaten American jobs and our economic security, not the least of which is the lack of a currency chapter. President Obama needs to recognize that this version of the TPP is the wrong direction for American families. If the President intends to create the ‘gold standard’ then we should have an agreement that lives up to our highest expectations.”

Last year 230 members of the House of Representatives signed a letter urging the Administration to include currency disciplines in TPP. Details on Wednesday’s press call are as follows:
