NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today joined the New Haven Manufacturers Association to mark National Manufacturing Day. DeLauro is a longtime champion for policies that support manufacturing as an economic base.

“To restore long term prosperity in America we have to go back to being a country that builds things again, not just one that consumes things made overseas,” DeLauro said. “This means making investments in facilities, technology, machinery and workforce development that will help stimulate the growth we need to create good paying manufacturing jobs. As the Arsenal of the Republic Connecticut has a rich history in this area, dating back to the days of Eli Whitney. On National Manufacturing Day I pledge to continue my efforts to ensure we have a strong manufacturing base and the jobs that come along with it.”

Jerry Clupper, Executive Director of the New Haven Manufacturers Association, said: “National Manufacturing Day is a pubic opportunity for manufacturers to be proud of their contributions to our economy and life. By focusing the public on the marvel of today’s precision manufacturing – it is high-tech and clean - It is an opportunity for everyone to appreciate the contributions, opportunities and needs of manufacturers. Manufacturers make things and provide good jobs and rewarding careers. We welcome everyone’s support as we dedicate this day to manufacturers and the value they add to our local and national economies.  We encourage you to visit a manufacturer and see what manufacturing really looks like.”

A staunch advocate of Sikorsky and Pratt & Whitney, DeLauro has made fighting for Connecticut’s manufacturers a pillar of her time in Congress. She is also author of the Manufacturing Reinvestment Account Act, which would enable manufacturers to open a Manufacturing Reinvestment Account (MRA), similar to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), so they can reinvest more of their profit back into their businesses. Last August she introduced the Rosoboronexport Embargo Act of 2014, which would prohibit any federal government funds from going to the company that accounts for 80 percent of Russia’s arms exports.
