Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change Launches Clean Energy Breakthroughs Series

Fact Sheets to Focus on Emerging Clean Energy Technologies

Today the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change launched a new series of fact sheets that will examine emerging energy technologies that could play a significant role in the clean energy economy of the future. Each fact sheet in the series, entitled Clean Energy Breakthroughs, will examine a technical challenge, describe the opportunities it presents, and highlight new technologies being developed to address the challenge. The first fact sheet in the series examines the progress being made on grid-scale energy storage.

“Our goal is to educate members of Congress and the public about the exciting new technologies being developed to address the growing threat of climate change,” said Rep. Henry A. Waxman, Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “There is a tremendous amount of innovation happening across the country that can be a huge source of jobs and economic growth.”

“Energy storage technologies can help us unleash the full potential of renewable energy sources like solar and wind,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. “As we continue fighting to break through the barricade of special interests in Washington preventing action on climate change and clean energy, I hope this fact sheet and the others our Task Force plans to release will help inform our colleagues and the public about the opportunities presented by clean energy.”

The Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change, founded in January 2013 and co-chaired by Rep. Waxman, Sen. Whitehouse, Rep. Markey, and Sen. Cardin, focuses on drawing congressional and public attention to climate change and developing effective policy responses to this urgent challenge.
