Social Security

Social Security is a vital source of income for millions of retirees.  With Americans living longer and the number of retirees per worker increasing, adjustments to Social Security need to be made so that it will be financially strong for future generations.  However, these changes must ensure that retirees will receive the benefits they have earned by paying into the system over their entire careers.

Preserving Social Security will require a bipartisan effort, which is why I introduced legislation to protect Social Security while taking steps to reduce the national debt.

Medicare

The rising costs of healthcare are unsustainable for American businesses, families, and the federal government.  In order to sustain Medicare for future generations, we need to find innovative ways of improving patient care and reducing costs, without restricting access to the coverage that millions of Americans rely on to lead healthier lives.

One of the most important steps we need to take is eliminating fraud in the Medicare system.  Medicare fraud accounts for more than $60 billion in taxpayer money that does not go toward patient care.  This cannot continue if we are to be successful in reducing the growth in Medicare costs and bringing down annual budget deficits.
