House Passes Bipartisan and Bicameral NDAA

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 3979, the Carl Levin and Howard P. “Buck” McKeon National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015:

“In an increasingly dangerous world where America continues to face the rise of extremism and instability abroad, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2015 ensures American security and provides the resources necessary for a strong defense and foreign policy. The bill funds troop readiness and also supports our military operations against ISIL in Iraq and Syria, while ensuring increased Congressional oversight on these activities. It also explicitly prohibits the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to the United States and denies funding for any terrorist detention facilities on American soil. Notably, the bill also prohibits another round of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process from being carried out in 2015.

“On a personal note, I want to thank my good friend, House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon, who will be retiring from Congress at the end of this year.  Today’s bill bears his name—a fitting tribute since the bill embodies the consistent, persistent, and strong support for our men and women in uniform that Buck leaves as a legacy after his years of service and leadership in the House. Buck has been a true friend and mentor to me, and his leadership, collegiality, and passion for our troops will be missed in Congress.”
