Price Votes to Support Troops and Military Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), Chair of the House Budget Committee in the upcoming 114th Congress, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015:

“America has and must always maintain the best equipped and best trained military in the world. The brave men and women who volunteer to stand on the front lines in defense of our freedoms must be assured that we will always do our part to respect their service, the sacrifice of their families and to provide the support they have so clearly earned. This National Defense Authorization Act reflects that effort and that obligation.

“While I am supportive of this legislation and appreciate the work of my colleagues in putting it together, I have concerns about provisions pertaining to the training and equipping of Syrian opposition forces. This authorization must not be used by the Obama Administration in the future as justification to forgo its responsibility to seek greater input and consultation with Congress on this matter. The Administration’s inclination to do so is one of the reasons why I previously opposed similar efforts. Congress must appropriately guard our rightful role in the exercise of American military power, and we should be cautious not to unduly relinquish that authority.

“As America and our allies face a host of different threats and challenges around the world, it is vital that Congress completes its work on the NDAA so our military has the guidance to complete their missions.”
