Thompson, Richmond Thank Pistole for His Years of Public Service

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Thursday, October 16, 2014

October 16, 2014 (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, and Rep. Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA), Ranking Member of the Committee’s Transportation Security Subcommittee, released the below statements on the retirement on John S. Pistole as the Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Congressman Thompson stated:

“I would like to thank John S. Pistole for his 31 years of public service. During his more than four years as the Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration, TSA evolved from an agency with a one size fits all approach to security to an entity focusing on risk, allowing for the tailoring of passenger screening protocols through programs such as PreCheck. I also applaud him for his decision to afford Transportation Security Officers the right to collectively bargain and thank him for his unwavering support for this basic workplace right. TSA is a stronger and more effective agency due to Administrator Pistole’s leadership. Given the known and persistent threats to our aviation sector, I call upon the President to act quickly and nominate a qualified replacement. Similarly, I urge my colleagues in the Senate to move swiftly in confirming the replacement for this critical position.”

Congressman Richmond added the following:

“Administrator Pistole has displayed strong leadership and dedication during his time at the Transportation Security Administration. We were able to work together to create a safer and more efficient environment for travelers throughout the nation. Going forward, I am confident that TSA will be able to effectively and efficiently ensure the security of the American people. This is in large part due to the contributions of Administrator Pistole. I thank him for his service and look forward to continuing to strengthen the legacy he leaves behind.”
