CBC Chair Marcia L. Fudge's Statement on President Barack Obama's Executive Action on Immigration

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Marcia L. Fudge released the following statement on President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration:

"I applaud the President for taking this courageous first step to address the immigration crisis in this country. It is the right thing to do - for immigrant families and for the nation - and signifies this Administration's commitment to the lawful, fair, and humane treatment of America's immigrants.

"This is the right time for action. The President's plan will secure our border, prioritize deporting felons not families, and require certain undocumented immigrants to pass a criminal background check and pay their fair share of taxes as they register to temporarily stay in the US without fear of deportation. These are all common sense steps that will continue moving our nation forward.

"I wholeheartedly support the President's decision to move ahead with this action. He has the authority, and I can only hope our Republican colleagues will act on immigration if they disagree with his action.”
