Shop Small Business on Saturday

Nov 26, 2014
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01), a member of the House Small Business Committee, announced “Small Business Saturday” and is encouraging Kansans to shop local this Saturday.

Rep. Huelskamp released the following statement:

“It is no secret that small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. These more than 28 million businesses provide nearly half of all employment and a vast majority of new jobs. In many cases though, Washington is too interested in what goes on in Wall Street, instead of focusing on Main Street. This is wrong.

“That is why I am proud to be co-sponsoring the ‘Small Business Saturday’ resolution. Since 2010, Small Business Saturday has grown into a nationwide trend. Falling on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, it embraces that weekend’s already active shopping trends with a focus on shopping locally and ‘shopping small.’ This symbolic gesture offers us an opportunity to support our neighbors and friends that provide the backbone to our economy.

“It is an honor to serve the Big First’s Main Street in the U.S. House of Representatives. I hope that you join with me in shopping local after Thanksgiving this Saturday.”

Congressman Huelskamp is a recipient of the 2015 “Hero of Main Street.” The award is given to those members who show consistent support for America’s small businesses, as well as the U.S retail industry. Award eligibility is based on key votes, bill sponsorship and advocacy on a wide array of small business and retail priorities including but not limited to patent reform, the federal minimum wage and reforming the Affordable Care Act.
