Educating the next generation is a responsibility of parents, teachers, local schools, and the state.

Education should always remain a family, local and state issue – not one left to Washington bureaucrats and politicians.  Whether it is No Child Left Behind, Race to the Top, or Common Core, I believe these programs reflect a Washingtonian belief that they know better than the parents, teachers, administration, and school board members in Kansas.  Let’s repeal these laws and shift power away from Washington – and return it to where it belongs – back home.

Lindsborg, KS – This afternoon Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) issued awards for the 2014 Congressional Arts Competition hosted by The Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kansas. All high school students in the First Congressional District were encouraged to participate. The grand prize winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Following in-person interviews with candidates and rigorous evaluation by a board of Kansans, 1st District Congressman Tim Huelskamp announced that he would recommend the following individuals:

Caulan Brooks, of Larned, son of Ronald and Nikki Chlumsky. He attends Larned High School.

DODGE CITY, KAN. – Each year Members of Congress have the opportunity to nominate outstanding young men and women between the ages of 18 and 23 to apply for a limited number of positions at four of the nation's five military service academies. Congressman Huelskamp assembled a selection committee to interview candidates seeking nominations. The interviews will take place in Dodge City on Saturday November 16th at Dodge City Community College.

IRS Incompetence

In addition to the targeting of conservatives, the IRS demonstrated incompetence at its highest levels when acting IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel testified at my recent Small Business Committee hearing.  When I asked him to identify the statute that authorizes the President to alter the ObamaCare employer mandate, Mr. Werfel was unable to do so.
