The Week Just Past:A Tax Reform Appeal from Job Creators

“As many people turn their attention to this month’s tax-filing deadline, it’s an appropriate time to note how the tax code is hurting our economy, jobs and opportunities.  With the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world, American employers and their workers are being held back.  A look around the globe makes it clear: while countries like Ireland, Japan, Chile and Canada all lowered their corporate tax rates in 2012, America’s corporate rate remains the highest in the industrialized world at 35 percent.

“No can deny the basic economic fact that capital is mobile, and America’s high rate and outdated tax code threatens our competitiveness in the global marketplace.  That hurts New Jersey companies.

“America’s job creators seem to wholeheartedly agree.

“In a letter to House and Senate members this week, leaders in the retail, aerospace, telecommunications and other industries called on Congress to act now on comprehensive tax reform and highlighted the problems with the current code. They wrote: ‘Coupled with our complicated tax system, this rate makes American businesses less competitive and makes the U.S. a less attractive place for investment, ultimately harming businesses, investors, workers and consumers.’

“As the clock ticks toward the April 15 tax deadline, it’s a good time to focus on changes that could help American companies, American workers and American families.  Comprehensive tax reform that lowers rates and makes the code simpler and fairer for families can strengthen the economy and lead to higher wages for hardworking American taxpayers.”

Rodney Wins Prestigious Manufacturers Award

Rodney was presented with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence this week in recognition of his consistent support of manufacturers and their employees across the United States. The Award was presented at an event sponsored by NAM member BASF in Florham Park, as well as Pfizer, Bayer, Honeywell, Marotta Controls and Hydraulic Institute of Parsippany.

"Manufacturing is a keystone of this nation's economic engine, and a strong manufacturing base is essential for a strong and growing economy," Rodney said.  “It’s hard to envision significant job creation in America without a vibrant manufacturing sector and that is why I work to make sure that government gets off manufacturers’ backs AND their balance sheets.”

The nationally recognized NAM “Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence” honors members of Congress who demonstrate support for policies that enhance the ability of manufacturers to succeed in the global economy.  Key manufacturing votes for the 112th Congress included energy policy, taxes, regulations and labor law reform, among others.

"Listening Tour" Continues

Rodney’s “listening tour” of businesses and neighborhoods in the 11th District continued this week.

He visited employees and toured the facilities of BAE Systems in Wayne, Passaic County where the workforce is developing ground-breaking communications systems to assist our military.

He also stopped by Glenbrook Technologies in Randolph, Morris County, was briefed on the company’s innovative technology capabilities, which have applications for health care, homeland security and other security industries.
