Today U.S. Department of Labor announced that Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood will receive a competitive grant of $2,499,973 for its Connecting Competencies to Employers (C2E) program. The grant devotes resources to create a core mechatronics technician path designed for advanced manufacturing and industrial technology careers. This path allows students to pursue positions in high demand with companies in the South Sound area.

Two U.S. lawmakers from Washington state are pushing bills that would pay for the remodeling of the last of six outdated elementary schools at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The Clover Park School District would get $40 million to renovate Evergreen Elementary School if either of the bills sponsored by Democrats Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Denny Heck make it through Congress.

Both bills have cleared hurdles in the House and Senate. The measures would set aside about $140 million for renovations at schools on military bases around the country.

Language released today in the Fiscal Year 2015 Department of Defense Appropriations Act includes $139 million for the construction, renovation, repair, and expansion of elementary and secondary public schools on military installations, including nearly $40 million for Evergreen Elementary located on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Denny Heck (D-Wash.) announced this week that four organizations located in the 10th Congressional District of Washington received a total of $11.7 million in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Funding supports 1,069 AmeriCorps members working on disaster response, conservation projects, literacy tutoring, and veteran transition assistance.
