Congressman Al Green’s Statement on President Obama’s Immigration Accountability Executive Action

(Washington, DC)—On Friday, November 21, 2014, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following statement on President Obama’s Immigration Accountability Executive Action.

“President Obama has acted boldly within his legal authority to address problems within our immigration system and border security. President Obama’s Immigration Accountability Executive Action should provide some relief and certainty for millions of law-abiding undocumented immigrants and their families. It holds undocumented persons accountable while further securing our borders.  This precedential action follows in the long tradition of Presidents, who have used their authority, within the limits of the law, to modify our immigration system to better serve our national interests at critical times.

“While much is being said, much is still left to be done by Congress to provide lasting, bipartisan reform of our nation’s immigration system. Approximately eighteen months have passed since the Senate approved bipartisan Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation. President Obama understands that reform is urgently needed; I support his efforts in this regard and look forward to voting for durable and meaningful Comprehensive Immigration Reform in Congress.”
