As a United States Senator, I am honored to have the privilege every year of nominating a number of Ohio’s top young achievers for entry into one of our nation’s military academies.  These include the Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, and the Naval Academy.  Our military academies offer the education, training, and leadership skills proven to provide each branch of the military with the best, brightest and most dedicated officers in the world.

March – September 2014 - COMPLETE PACKET
Candidates must complete an application packet and return it to Senator Portman’s Columbus office.

Friday, September 26, 2014 - DEADLINE!
All required information for a completed application packet must be physically received in the office by 5:00p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014.  Please use sufficient postage.

October - Mid-December 2014 – INTERVIEWS
Candidates chosen for an interview will be notified by mail.  Interviews are approximately 20 minutes long and are presided over by Senator Portman’s Academy Review Board.  All interviews are held in Columbus.

January 2015- NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED!
Senator Portman notifies interviewed candidates and submits nominations to the academies.

January - May 2015 - APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED!
Students will be notified.  Although some appointments are offered beyond May, the academies will make the majority of appointments between January and May

June 2015
Appointed cadets/midshipmen are due at the academies.

To be considered for a nomination, an applicant must be:
• A U.S. citizen and legal resident of Ohio
• Between the ages of 17 and 23 by July 1st of the admission year

Applicants are encouraged to apply for a nomination from all nominating sources:
• Members of Congress (both U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative). Find your Member of Congress
• The Vice President of the United States
• The President of the United States (Service Affiliated Nomination)
• ROTC/JROTC Commander

Requirements for a completed application packet:
• Complete application form
• Official SAT and/or ACT scores
• Three letters of recommendation
• Official High School/College transcript
