Veterans Issues

Congressman Garcia is committed to working on a bipartisan basis to ensure that those who have served our country receive the support they deserve. Congressman Garcia believes it is our responsibility to care for and honor America's veterans, and their families.

Earlier this year, Congressman Garcia strongly supported efforts to repeal damaging cuts to COLA benefits for military retirees. He cosponsored H.R. 3790, strongly bipartisan legislation to fully restore these important benefits, and worked with colleagues across the aisle to build support for this cause. Due to these bipartisan efforts, earlier this year, the House passed – and the President signed – legislation to repeal the cuts. While Congressman Garcia believes we should work together to address our nation’s fiscal challenges, we cannot do so at the expense of our nation’s veterans.

In light of the serious health care issue that many of our nation’s veterans face, Congressman Garcia is strongly committed to increasing funding for veterans’ health care and making much needed changes at the VA to ensure that veterans receive high-quality care without delays. It is unacceptable that our former servicemen and women should have to experience any delays in receiving the care they need. That’s why Congressman Garcia supports the 21st Century Health Care for Heroes Act, which will help streamline VA administration, increase transparency for medical records, and improve the availability of needed health care services.

As a member of the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus, Congressman Garcia has worked to address the unacceptably high unemployment rates of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Toward that end, Congressman Garcia introduced the Veterans Conservation Corps Act earlier this year, which will provide transitional assistance to separating service members, employing them on projects designed to leverage the skills they’ve developed in the military to restore and protect our national, state, and tribal forests, parks, coastal areas, and wildlife refuges,.

Our nation’s veterans have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our nation. We must never waver in our commitment to them.
