Health Care

A strong, affordable healthcare system is crucial for the well-being of the American people. While working to get the nation’s fiscal house in order, Congressman Garcia is committed to protecting Medicare and Medicaid for current and future generations of Floridians. These landmark laws have lifted millions of seniors out of poverty and provided Americans with the health care they need and deserve.

Congressman Garcia is a strong supporter of strengthening and protecting Medicare, which is why earlier this year he took action to oppose cuts to Medicare Advantage and harmful changes to Medicare Part D's prescription drug program. Congressman Garcia has met with the President to voice his concerns over any cuts to Medicare, spoken with top administration officials about the importance of preserving this program, and led congressional efforts to oppose regulations that would limit access to prescription drugs. Congressman Garcia has also called for a permanent repeal of the Sustainable Growth Rate formula, which in its current form causes uncertainty for patients and risks reducing the quality of health care services offered under Medicare.

Congressman Garcia also believes that all Americans should have access to affordable, high quality health care. That’s why he supports the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which will provide tens of millions of Americans access to health insurance and has already instituted reforms aimed at improving the quality and affordability of healthcare. This law has ended the practice of denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, reduced the cost of prescription medicine, and enabled young adults to stay on their parent's healthcare until age 26, all while reducing our nation’s deficit.

However, Congressman Garcia recognizes that the Affordable Care Act is not a perfect law, which is why he has voted to improve the law through commonsense, bipartisan fixes. Since taking office, Congressman Garcia has supported changes to the law that would allow people to keep their existing health insurance plans if they risked losing coverage and delay requirement for individuals to buy health insurance. As he continues working for the people of South Florida, Congressman Garcia is committed to working on a bipartisan basis ensure that the ACA best serves the American people and that all Americans have access to high-quality, affordable health care.
