Washington, D.C. – The House passed the bipartisan Malala Yousafzai Scholarship Act yesterday to expand scholarship opportunities for students in Pakistan. The legislation included a provision sponsored by Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) encouraging scholarship recipients to commit to improving their local communities.

“By educating young women, we advance democracy in countries threatened by extremism,” Frankel said.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) today applauded the bipartisan work of Congress to reauthorize the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act (CCDBG), which will improve child care quality and help parents find and sustain employment. On Monday night, the Senate agreed to the House-passed version of the legislation and it will now be sent to President Obama for his signature.

Currently, federal data about temporary foreign worker visas is collected by three separate federal agencies and generally not made available to the public.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Frankel released the following statement after the Supreme Court handed down its ruling on Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius affirming the 10th Circuit Court of Appeal.

“Employers belong in the workplace, not in an employee’s doctor's office,” said Frankel. “Personal decisions about contraception should be between a woman and her physician – not a woman and her supervisor.  Today’s ruling is a sad step backwards for women’s health and individual rights over those of corporate bosses.”
