Washington, DC – Congresswoman Lois Frankel released the following statement in honor of Veterans Day, observed Tuesday, November 11.
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) today hosted a roundtable at Florida Atlantic University with local colleges and universities about resources available to student veterans in South Florida. Frankel focused on the Veterans Education Empowerment Act, legislation that would allow the Department of Education to help establish veteran student centers.
Washington DC – Congresswoman Lois Frankel voted today in favor of the House and Senate compromise to reform the Veterans Affairs Administration. The $17 billion bill comes in the wake of the systemic problems reported at VA health facilities that resulted in thousands of veterans not receiving timely care. The bill now goes to the Senate for approval.
Washington, DC —Congresswoman Lois Frankel issued the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released the result of their internal audit of scheduling practices at VA hospitals and clinics nationwide.
The report said that 63,000 patients were waiting to be scheduled for care nationwide, and that 13 percent of VA schedulers reported being instructed to falsify reports about appointment waiting periods. The Palm Beach, Broward and Miami clinics were not included among VA facilities requiring further audit of their scheduling policies.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Lois Frankel issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned today as a result of the systemic problems reported at VA health facilities.
“The mission for the VA is to make sure no veteran is ever left behind. The current investigation into the allegations must continue and the problems must be fixed. Our returning heroes have earned and deserve the health care they need without delay,” Frankel said.
West Palm Beach, FL – Congresswoman Lois Frankel issued the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs announced that veterans who have treatment delays of 30 days or more will have the option to seek private care.
"Expanding veteran care to private providers in order to prevent delays in treatment is a step in the right direction. Our returning heroes deserve the very best in health care without long waits for attention," Frankel said.
West Palm Beach, FL – Congresswoman Lois Frankel spoke on April 11 at Palm Beach State College to kick off the National Disabled Veteran Business Council’s Business Conference. The event was a small business workshop for veterans, designed to help veteran entrepreneurs by connecting them with government agencies and commercial companies.
Congresswoman Frankel is the mother of an Iraq and Afghanistan US Marine war veteran, and has made helping returning veterans transition into the workforce one of her top priorities.
Washington, D.C. – Elisha Morrow, who inspired Congresswoman Frankel’s National Defense Authorization Act provision on military sexual assault, visited Washington today to testify at a panel on sexual assault in the military.
"It was a privilege to testify before the subcommittee today about the difficulties our military members face,” said Morrow. “I addressed boot camp and training environments and focused on needed areas of change."
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Frankel joined House Democrats in signing a discharge petition, led by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), to bring up the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act. The bill extends emergency unemployment insurance for nearly 5 million Americans looking for work through the end of the year.
“I am especially concerned for the 200,000 veterans who have risked life and limb serving our country and need this deserved helping hand while they look for work,” said Frankel.
Boca Raton, FL — Congresswoman Lois Frankel has just returned from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) in Brussels as part of a bipartisan congressional delegation. Frankel was appointed to the US delegation by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. During the four-day trip, the delegation – comprised of five additional Members of Congress – met with representatives of the other NATO countries as well as NATO leaders including NATO Commander General Philip Breedlove, NATO PA President Hugh Baley, and US Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute.
