Washington, DC – Congresswoman Lois Frankel’s (FL-22) amendment to H.R. 3583, the Malala Yousafzai Scholarship Act, was passed by unanimous consent as the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted to send the entire bill to the full House for a possible vote. 

Malala is the inspirational Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head by the Taliban while on her way home from school. She was targeted in an attempt to silence her increasingly influential voice supporting girls’ education, which had been banned under Taliban rule.

Boca Raton, FL—Today Congresswoman Lois Frankel announced that she has invited all high school students in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District to participate in the inaugural Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academic Competition, “The House STEM App Challenge.” This competition will allow students in South Florida and across the country to compete by creating a software application or “app” for mobile, tablet or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

The workshop will be held at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton from 7-8:30 p.m.

Students and parents can learn about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), qualifying for financial aid and what options are available if you don’t qualify for aid and how to identify grants and scholarship opportunities.

This bill is designed to receive bipartisan support in the House. It has many provisions from the common-sense, comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate in June by a bipartisan vote of 68 to 32.
