Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) recently spoke on the House floor to recognize the significance of this Sunday, December 7, 2014, the “date which will live in infamy.”   This date marks the seventy-third anniversary of the attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor.  Countless men and women lost their lives that day and over a thousand others were wounded.

Federal Designation Preserves Canal History & Plans for Future

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced the House of Representatives has approved reauthorization of the Erie Canal as a National Heritage Corridor.  Through this legislation the federal designation, which is set to expire in 2015, will be renewed through 2021.  The bill is expected to be before the Senate next week.

Legislation allows for creation of tax-free savings accounts for individuals with disabilities

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced today the House of Representatives approval of H.R. 647, the Achieving a Better Life Experience Act (ABLE Act).  This legislation creates tax-free savings accounts for individuals with disabilities. Congressman Higgins cosponsored the legislation.

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced today that the Buffalo Public Schools will receive a $45,000 federal grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The grant money will be used to help with the development of a plan for Buffalo Public Schools to expand the use of food from local farmers to be served in school cafeterias.

$11.3 million redevelopment project continues to transform Ohio Street into an important parkway linking Buffalo’s inner and outer harbors; City of Buffalo allocated $1.2 million to the project

Buffalo, NY - Mayor Byron Brown and Congressman Brian Higgins officially re-opened a 1.4 mile stretch of Ohio Street today, which continues to undergo an $11.3 million rehabilitation. Ohio Street is now operational, with nearly 70% of the work completed.  The remainder of the project will be completed in spring 2015.
