The site visits to Michigan’s Greatest Fudge in Burton and the Bancroft Wine and Martini Bar in Saginaw were a part of ‘Startup Day Across America,’ a national effort dedicated to supporting new small businesses and local entrepreneurs.

Peterson's ever-expanding family business, Michigan's Greatest Fudge, has been cooking up delectable, handmade Mackinac-style fudge in its kitchen for one year and was visited by U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Twp., Tuesday, Aug. 5 as part of Startup Across America Day.

"This is a homegrown economy and it's good to see a family owned business be so successful," Rep. Kildee said during his visit.

U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee will host "Witness Wednesdays" to share stories of people who have been on long-term unemployment and push to extend unemployment benefits.

Witness Wednesdays is set to take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, and is co-hosted by the Center for Effective Government.

Kildee, D-Flint Township, will be joined by other Members of Congress and organizations including Social Security Works, Generations United, the Union of the Unemployed, the U.S. Student's Association, Bread for the World, the American Youth Policy Forum and the Pension Rights Center.

U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee (D-Flint) visited the recently renovated Tawas City Shoreline Park on Monday, as he met with city officials to tour the area and see first-hand the improvements which were made  with the 2013 Downtown Infrastructure Grant (DIG) awarded to the city for this project.

The event was part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) celebration of the 40th anniversary of Community Development Block Grants (CDBG).

U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Township, toured Genesee Packaging Tuesday, July 1, to ask plant managers what manufacturing businesses in Michigan need to create more jobs and help the state thrive.

Kildee visited the plant to see Michigan manufacturing first hand and to raise support for the Make it in America jobs agenda and his bill H.R. 4831, the 21st Century Manufacturing Skills and Jobs Act, he introduced to Congress June 10.

"It's important to me to see how the industry works, what the challenges are," Kildee said while he toured the facility.

U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee continues to push for an extension on unemployment benefits with the help of other legislators. 

Kildee, D-Flint Township, recently sent a letter to the incoming House Majority Leader, Kevin McCarthy, requesting a meeting to discuss a way to immediately extend emergency unemployment insurance for the 3.1 million Americans who have been cut off from their benefits since Congress failed to renew them last December.
