More on Health Care
WASHINGTON – Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) cosponsored a new bill this week that would protect women’s access to health care after a U.S. Supreme Court decision last month that rolled back the rights of individuals, particularly women, in favor of corporations. The 5-4 split decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby allows for-profit corporations to deny women access to certain forms of birth control based on a corporations’ religious beliefs.
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) has successfully amended the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with two amendments, both focused on improving the lives of service members in Michigan and around the nation. On a unanimous bipartisan vote late last night, the amendments were passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.
“I am pleased that the House adopted both of my amendments to care for our wounded men and women returning from overseas and to protect service members near military bases from predatory lenders,” Congressman Kildee said.
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after it was announced that the Michigan State Senate will not vote today to expand Medicaid coverage:
“Today’s announcement represents a failure of leadership from Republicans in state government. Expanding Medicaid in Michigan is a smart, cost-saving investment that should have been approved long before today’s deadline. The vast majority of Michiganders support expanding Medicaid coverage, yet Senate Republicans have chosen extreme partisan ideology over common sense.”

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today cosponsored the Veterans Mental Health Accessibility Act (VMHAA), a bipartisan piece of legislation to help provide greater mental health care to military veterans. Currently, veterans face a five-year window in which they must seek treatment before they lose their high priority status. VMHAA would eliminate the five-year window and allow veterans to more expediently seek treatment for service-connected mental illnesses.

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) announced today a new report that shows millions of Michigan residents are already benefiting from the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The third anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the ACA is this upcoming Saturday, March 23rd.
Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) this week joined 88 other Members of Congress in sending a letter to Postmaster General Patrick Donahue urging the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to maintain delivery of medications six days a week. The letter follows the announcement by the USPS last week that, beginning August 5, 2013, it will move to a five-day mail delivery schedule and eliminate Saturday mail delivery.
