It may be awhile before freshman U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Flint) ever sits in the majority.

The Roll Call/Rothenberg Report rankings show congressional Republicans are well-positioned to maintain their majority in November, while Democrats would have to win "every seat where they have even a slight edge, plus about 20 more."

Talk about an uphill battle.

But regardless of how his party is floundering, Kildee's star is rising.

Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) on Thursday said that Congress doesn't deserve its five-week August recess.

"Creating opportunity for hardworking American families and reigniting the American Dream should be the top priority of this Congress," Kildee said on the House floor. "But instead, we are about embark on a one-month legislative recess as the House Republican leadership continues to block action on legislation to create jobs and grow the middle class."

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) has successfully amended the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with two amendments, both focused on improving the lives of service members in Michigan and around the nation. On a unanimous bipartisan vote late last night, the amendments were passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I am pleased that the House adopted both of my amendments to care for our wounded men and women returning from overseas and to protect service members near military bases from predatory lenders,” Congressman Kildee said.

Alyssa Minatel, a senior at Linden High School, received two round-trip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to Washington, D.C., to attend a ribbon-cutting and reception on June 26 after she captured first place in the Congressional Art Competition in the Fifth District, represented by U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Township.

The announcement was made Tuesday, May 13, at the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E. Kearsley St. in Flint.
