A majority of Senate Democrats defeated a bill to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline Tuesday evening. The Senate voted 59-41 for the bill, but 60 votes were required for adoption. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., supported approval of the pipeline.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline was right six years ago when the issue came up and it is right now. I’m hopeful when the new majority takes over the Senate will finally do the right thing and approve this project,” said Enzi. “In Wyoming we know the importance of energy projects. They create jobs and help keep energy prices affordable for our nation. This pipeline is an important and overdue step toward lessening our dependence on not-so-friendly countries for our energy needs.”
