Congress must come together with a bipartisan effort to find a long-term budget solution that reduces our deficit and grows our economy. This means taking a balanced approach to craft a responsible plan that cuts wasteful spending and invests in the programs that help working families, create jobs and put our economy back on the right track.
Education
We must ensure that every child in the United States has access to a high-quality education. I am committed to increasing our nation’s investment in early learning programs, elementary and secondary schools, public universities, and career and technical education programs.Energy
Our nation must take meaningful steps to build a new economy based on clean and renewable energy sources while we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil.Environment
The Pacific Northwest is home to some of our nation’s most beautiful national forests, parks, mountains and waterways. As an avid hiker, I know firsthand that what makes living in the Pacific Northwest so special is the natural environment that surrounds us. Taking care of our natural resources and protecting our environment is critical to preserving the quality of life we cherish.
Health Care
It is our responsibility to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care. I am committed to strengthening our nation’s health care system by incentivizing high-quality patient care, reducing costs for small business, and expanding access for our most vulnerable populations.Immigration
For too long, Congress has ignored taking meaningful action to address immigration and as a result we have a flawed system that isn’t working, for immigrants, their families or employers. We need an immigration system that makes America safer, while also recognizing the enormous contributions that immigrants have made and continue to make to our nation.
Jobs and the Economy
With working families and businesses still struggling in the midst of our fragile economic recovery, my top priority in Congress is creating jobs and building the foundation for long-term economic growth.National Security
The safety of Americans from terrorism and other threats must be our number one national security priority. Our nation needs effective responses to emerging danger, and as a member of Congress, I am working hard to ensure that our nation remains vigilant against all threats, including those emanating from cyberspace.Seniors
Social Security has long been a building block of our middle class and I am committed to strengthening and protecting it. America’s senior citizens worked hard for their retirement and deserve the dignity afforded by these benefits.
Tax Reform
Our current tax system undermines competitiveness when it should be encouraging job creation and innovation. We need to comprehensively reform our tax code.
Transportation
Across the nation, our infrastructure is facing a breaking point. Many of our roads and bridges are badly in need of new investments that will modernize our infrastructure while ensuring public safety. In order to strengthen our economy, we need transportation solutions that efficiently move people and goods.
