Congressman Fincher Statement on Ebola Epidemic

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Stephen Fincher (R-Frog Jump) today released the following statement on the Ebola epidemic:

“The tragic West African Ebola epidemic has reached the United States and in doing so raised a tremendous amount of concern, fear and confusion. Across Tennessee, and the country, Americans are worried what will happen if Ebola reaches their hometowns. While I have no doubt that the United States is better prepared than any other nation to address this challenge here at home, the President’s extremely slow response has produced even more uncertainty.   

“Lives are at stake. It’s time for the president to lead and work together with the Director of the CDC to formulate a detailed plan that clearly and pragmatically protects American interests from this foreign threat – before it becomes a more dangerous domestic epidemic. Which is why I have called on the president to institute immediate travel restrictions, enhance airport screenings, and develop quarantine measures for individuals who have traveled to, or from, the West African countries that have been impacted by this horrific epidemic. We must also be aware of our southern border and do all that we can to stop Ebola’s spread and ensure it doesn’t hit our shores again in the future.

“We must prepare for the worst and pray for the best. If we work together and take proper precautions, I have no doubt American exceptionalism and enterprise will readily overcome this terrible epidemic.”
