After significant push-back from West Tennessee students and community leaders, we were successful in encouraging the Army to suspend the closure of all 13 ROTC programs for two years. This is an important accomplishment, as ROTC programs give students the tools they will need to become future leaders.

The Internal Revenue Service violated the First Amendment rights of the American people — and their trust — when it targeted conservative political groups in Tennessee and around the country for additional scrutiny during the 2012 election. As Congress investigates just how deeply the problem goes, it’s important to make sure those responsible are held accountable, so that the American people can trust their government.

Harmful. Not helpful. That’s how I’ve long viewed the IRS-controlled health care law, more commonly referred to as Obamacare. Now, even once enthusiastic supporters are coming to the same realization — signaling to Americans everywhere the law is a proverbial train wreck. It’s a rare occasion when groups across the political spectrum agree on anything, but IRS-controlled healthcare is just that harmful.

My faith and belief in Christ are incredibly important to me and guide my life. Of course, that’s not something the liberal media approve of. They take every opportunity to pick and choose stories, truncating the facts and taking quotes out of context, which helps drive their agenda of more government and less individual freedoms.

Changes could be coming for the Mississippi and Hatchie River floodplains in Dyer, Lauderdale, Tipton and Haywood counties. This past December, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service proposed expanding the Chickasaw and Lower Hatchie National Wildlife Refuges into each refuge's neighboring bottomlands.

I believe in an America that tackles problems with strong solutions. At a time when our economy is sluggish, unemployment is high, budgets are tight and economic opportunities are limited, Tennessee should say YES to prioritizing its limited funds in smart projects that produce maximum economic gains. I-69 is such a project.
