This legislation will block a proposed administrative rule by the Office of Personnel Management that purports to offer ObamaCare subsidies for Members of Congress and congressional staff not authorized by law and not available to the rest of the American people.

Port Orange, Fla. – Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) announced today that he will introduce the James Madison Congressional Accountability Act in response to the Office of Personnel Management’s ruling that members of Congress and their staffs will receive a special taxpayer-financed subsidy not available to other Americans using health care exchanges. This legislation will prohibit members of Congress and congressional staff from receiving any government contributions with respect to an exchange-based health care plan that is not available to the American people.

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL-06) and Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA-7) today introduced bipartisan legislation to sequester congressional pay. The “Sequestration of Pay for Members of Congress Act” will reduce pay for Members of Congress by 8.2 percent. This is the same amount the Office of Management and Budget estimates nonexempt discretionary spending will be cut this year due to sequestration.

U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Ponte Vedra Beach, picked Putnam County for his first town hall meeting, and if his intention was to play to a receptive audience, he made the right choice. About 100 people showed up, and they were more than supportive of the freshman congressman.

Many of the questions put to him were familiar conservative issues, such as Second Amendment rights, gun control, abortion, immigration and health care.
