Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) today delivered the keynote address at the dedication ceremony for the Statesboro Primary Care Tele-health Outreach Clinic (PCTOC). The new outpatient Statesboro Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic will be part of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta.

"The opening of this clinic is a win for veterans, not just in the Statesboro area but throughout the 12th District," said Congressman Barrow. "It's taken a long time, but now folks won't have to travel far to get the care they've earned. These veterans gave their country the best years of their lives, and we owe it to them to provide them the health care that they need — where they need it. We have a long way to go to provide veterans the full range of benefits they were promised when they enlisted, but today is a big step in the right direction."

Over the course of several years, Congressman Barrow advocated on behalf of the opening of the Statesboro VA Clinic. During debate on the 2008 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill, Congressman Barrow urged his colleagues to address the needs of veterans in and around the Statesboro area. Many veterans, at the time, were being forced to travel long distances for care. In November 2011, the VA announced the opening of the outpatient clinic in Statesboro.

The new facility will provide on-site primary care and mental health services, as well as patient-aligned care teams, rural health, and tele-health initiatives to include specialty and acute mental health services. The clinic's hours of operation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 4 days a week.
