Dear Friend,

This week marked National Small Business Week. Since coming to Congress I’ve visited 364 companies and businesses in our community and most of these were small businesses. Small business is the engine of our economy, employing 2 of every 3 new jobs. That's why I will continue working to bring down the onerous barriers and burdensome regulations our small businesses face to help them grow, expand, and hire. So, this week and weekend, continue to make an effort to visit a small business in your neighborhood.

As always, please feel free to contact me if I can assist you or your family in any way. Join the conversation online by visiting my websiteFacebook page, Twitter, and don't forget to watch my weekly video, Erik's Correspondence Corner.

Protecting Minnesota Jobs and Innovation from India’s Intellectual Property Violations

This week, I led a bipartisan letter urging the Administration to address India’s trade discrimination practices against American exporters. Over the past year, the Government of India has been needlessly invalidating U.S. patents, putting up burdensome barriers to American-made products, and forcing Indian companies to use Indian sources for their manufacturing – jeopardizing jobs and innovation here at home. These unfair policies are harming many U.S. and Minnesota industries including high-tech, agriculture, and biopharmaceuticals. Changes need to be made to level the playing field for American workers and employers.

Rep. John Larson (D-CT) and I, along with 168 other members, sent a letter to President Obama asking for his help in advance of Secretary of State John Kerry’s scheduled trip to
I joined the Minnesota non-profit Store-To-Door to assist with food deliveries and discuss how my bill will help them better serve seniors directly to their homes.
India next week so India’s intellectual property violations can be addressed during his visit. I will continue to work with the Administration and my colleagues in the House to combat trade discrimination and protect American jobs and Innovation.

Providing Seniors Easier Access to SNAP Benefits

On Tuesday, I re-introduced my bill to ensure Minnesota’s homebound seniors don’t go hungry. Under current law, seniors who use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are prevented from using their benefits to access food delivered to them by nonprofit organizations, making it extremely difficult for seniors who are unable to leave their homes to get food. The Enhancing Nutrition Services to the Elderly and Disabled Act will ensure Minnesota's nonprofits can efficiently deliver food and critical medications directly to seniors through the SNAP program.

Congressman Paulsen meets with the Stoltz family to hear their story and learn about their experience at the Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

I was honored to meet World War II hero and Minnesotan Jerry Nauss. He recently received the French Legion Knight of Honor award for his incredible service in defense of liberty.
