Connecting Careers & Classrooms: Life Sciences

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

8:30am to 3:00 pm

Connecting Careers & Classrooms is an event aimed at advancing our workforce. It is a workshop convened by Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks in Indiana’s 5th District that bridges the gap between industry and educators and fuels the future for our students.

What are life sciences?

The life sciences comprise the fields of science that involve the scientific study of living organisms. The life sciences industry includes biopharmaceuticals, medical instruments and devices, animal/agricultural bioscience and commercial research and testing.

Did you know?

  • Indiana’s life sciences industry delivers a $55 billion economic impact to the state
  • Indiana is home to nearly 2,000 companies and more than 55,000 life sciences workers
  • The average annual wage for a life sciences worker is now $89,056, compared to $41,357 for the average private sector wage.

Who should attend?

5th Congressional District middle- and high-school educators, including counselors, administrators or teachers

Why attend?

This event gives educators a chance to visit a local business in order to learn about career opportunities in the life sciences, tour a life science facility to view the workplace first-hand, and learn about school/business collaborations that are currently taking place. Additionally, we will provide Professional Growth Point (PGP) documentation.

Who will be there?

DowAgroSciences, Eli Lilly, Roche Diagnostics, AIT Laboratories and more
