It is a tradition dating all the way back to 1964, when the first Capitol Christmas Tree stood at just 24 feet tall.  Fastforward 50 years, (or simply keep scrolling down), and you will see this year’s tree, hailing from the Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota, proudly rises 88 feet from trunk to top.  Last night, the Architect of the Capitol, members of Congress, the Forest Service, and one very special, 10-year-old guest all gathered on the west terrace of the U.S. Capitol to light the massive white spruce and rejoice in the reason for the season
