House Democrats File Demand A Vote Petition
Members of the House Democratic Caucus support comprehensive immigration reform that upholds our basic principles: to secure our borders, protect our workers, unite families, and offer hardworking immigrants an earned pathway to citizenship. Fixing our broken immigration system will help small businesses expand, foster innovation, increase productivity, raise wages and create thousands of jobs in every congressional district. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), immigration reform would decrease the federal deficit by $900 billion. Now is the time to enact common sense solutions that reaffirm our values, advance our ideals and honor our history as a nation of immigrants.
That’s why House Democrats have launched a discharge petition to demand a vote to finally fix the broken immigration system. The votes are there, if only the Republican leadership would stop standing in the way. House Democrats Introduce Immigration Reform
In June, the Senate acted in a bipartisan way – with a vote of 68 to 32 – to pass their version of a comprehensive reform bill. In October, House Democrats introduced a common sense immigration reform bill based on bipartisan principles and bipartisan solutions to fix our nation’s broken immigration system. H.R. 15, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act will secure our borders, protect our workers, unite families, and offer hardworking immigrants an earned pathway to citizenship. House Democrats’ common sense immigration reform bill contains the same language in the bipartisan Senate bill that reforms our visa programs and our interior enforcement. It also contains a bipartisan border-security bill that garnered unanimous approval from Democrats and Republicans in the House Homeland Security Committee.
In the House, there is growing bipartisan support for comprehensive immigration reform. Since H.R. 15 was introduced, 200 House Democrats and Republicans have joined together in support of this common sense legislation. We know this bipartisan bill has the votes to pass. Instead of shutting down another common sense solution to move our country forward, House Republican leaders should schedule a vote on this bipartisan bill before the end of the year to fix our badly broken immigration system
