Time after time, Speaker Boehner and House Republicans have posed the rhetorical question “Where are the jobs?” while refusing to take action to bolster our economy and strengthen the job market for American workers.

In nominating a previous Deputy Secretary of Defense to lead the Defense Department, President Obama has tapped a proven leader to ensure continuity and provide the strategic vision needed to preserve the security of the American people.

“Last month, our economy made strong progress – building on the longest uninterrupted stretch of private sector job creation in our history.”

Speaker Boehner and his dysfunctional, obstructive and distracted GOP Conference earlier today passed the radical and callous “Yoho Bill” designed to deport our nation’s undocumented immigrants, deliberately ignoring calls from pro-immigrant groups to abandon their obstruction:

So we understand how damaging it is to our economy and all of our investments that we make – whether it’s in science, in education, in our veterans, in our men and women in uniform and our national security – that we can’t shut down government.

Time and again, the Republican leadership in the House has promised productive action to fix our clearly broken immigration system; yet time and again, Republicans have refused to give the American people a vote on this critical issue.

Today, House Republicans cemented themselves as the ‘traumatizing,’ mean-spirited, anti-immigrant Party of massive deportations – failing to act on bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform that passed the Senate over 520 days ago, deliberately ignoring the calls of prominent organizations, and voting, once more, to deport DREAMers, families and all of the undocumented immigrants from the country they love and call home.

Earlier today, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy had the audacity to say he was concerned about so-called “news reports” about Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi withholding key votes – implying she was responsible for the sorry Republican state of affairs on keeping the government open.
