Today, the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition formally endorsed a House resolution introduced by Budget Committee Ranking Member Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) urging the Speaker of the House to follow regular order, request a budget conference with the Senate and appoint conferees.

“This resolution supports longstanding Blue Dog fiscal policy positions and furthers our commitment to passing a budget, much like every household and business in America must do to live within their means,” said Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR), Co-Chair for Communications. “Americans deserve to know how their Congress is spending their money. It is time for House and Senate leaders to get together and negotiate a bipartisan budget proposal that creates economic opportunities, reduces our long-term deficit and ushers us into an era of fiscal responsibility.”

“The House and Senate have finally passed a budget for the first time in years, thanks to the Blue Dog-endorsed No Budget, No Pay Act,” said Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN), Co-Chair for Policy. Now House leadership must appoint conferees who will bridge the deep divide between the House and Senate budgets. Every American family works within a budget; Congress should, too.”

“For the first time in years, both the House and Senate have passed a budget to fund government operations,” said Rep. John Barrow (D-GA), Co-Chair for Administration.  “Now is not the time to turn our backs on this issue.  It’s time for both chambers to come together to work out our differences on a federal budget that responsibly cuts spending and puts us on a long-term path to deficit reduction.”
