What is less well known is that under Republican control, we have also experienced the most closed session of Congress in history—a dubious achievement that has contributed to the historic gridlock and dysfunction that defined Washington in 2013.

Slaughter Blasts GOP for Wasting Americans’ Time, Money, and Patience on 37th Failed Attempt To Repeal Obamacare

WASHINGTON – Today, House Rules Committee Ranking Member Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) blasted the House Republican leadership for wasting Americans’ time, money, and patience on their 37th attempt to repeal all or parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) while ignoring pressing national priorities like creating jobs and fixing the sequester’s devastating impact on middle-class families. According to figures compiled by CBS News, the House has now spent $55 million of taxpayer money on floor debate time to repeal the health care law, despite House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) saying after the 2012 elections that, “The President was re-elected; Obamacare is the law of the land.” The ACA is already lowering costs and providing benefits to the American people, and by the time the ACA is fully implemented, 27 million previously uninsured Americans will have recieved coverage through the law.
