Lowey Statement on House GOP "CROmnibus"

Press Release
Appropriations Ranking Dem: Plan "dangerous and irresponsible," risks another damaging government shutdown

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the House GOP plan to pass a partial Omnibus Appropriations Act combined with a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) for agencies funded through the Homeland Security Subcommittee:

“It is dangerous and irresponsible to engage in stunts and gimmicks affecting funding for the agencies under the Department of Homeland Security.

“A short-term CR would hamper the Secret Service’s ability to address White House security deficiencies, hold up necessary procurement for the Coast Guard and other agencies, impede hiring and planning for Presidential candidate protection, and delay necessary investments in border security.

“It jeopardizes our ability to enact government funding by December 11th and sets the stage for another partial shutdown affecting agencies that are critical to the security of our borders, communities, and more.

“This is no way to run a government.  We should proceed with negotiations and develop a full Omnibus.”
