WASHINGTON—House Democrats today elected Rep. Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) as the next Ranking Member for the Committee on Education and the Workforce, succeeding Rep. George Miller (D-CA), who is retiring at the end of this session of Congress. Rep. Miller released the following statement upon announcement of the election results:

“I am thrilled that my Democratic colleagues have selected Congressman Bobby Scott as the next Ranking Member of the Education and the Workforce Committee. For the entirety of his 22-year career in Congress, Rep. Scott has served admirably on the committee, fighting for students and workers nationwide. In the coming years, this committee will have to address many critical issues, from the long overdue reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to tackling student debt, from raising the minimum wage to guaranteeing the retirement security of all Americans. I am confident that under Rep. Scott’s strong leadership, the committee’s Democratic members will continue our fight to strengthen the middle class and improve the lives of millions of Americans.”
