Brady Denounces Hiring of High Priced D.C. Law Firm in Frivolous Lawsuit Against the President

Aug 27, 2014 Issues: Administration

WASHINGTON: Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Robert A. Brady today issued the following statement criticizing the Republican Majority’s hiring of D.C. insider law firm Baker Hostetler, at taxpayer expense, to support their frivolous lawsuit against President Obama. The $350,000 contract was approved without being reviewed through the standard Committee process:

“It is extremely troubling that the Republican Majority continues to pursue its politically motivated, frivolous attack against our President,” said Brady.  “At a time when our country is grappling with real issues, the fact that $350,000 in precious taxpayer resources are being misused to fuel a vendetta against President Obama is a travesty. The use of taxpayer funds in the absence of any legitimate checks and balances is reminiscent of the Majority’s failed attempt to validate the unconstitutional and discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act.  It was a terrible mistake then, and it is a terrible mistake now.”
