The Inspector General’s report shows that the State Department has significantly improved the focus on security at our most dangerous posts. Strong leadership from the newly established deputy assistant secretary for high threat posts is creating a culture of shared responsibility for security that was important to the Accountability Review Board. I agree with the IG that more work needs to be done, particularly with respect to fully staffing the office and institutionalizing these new procedures. Continued oversight and support from Congress will be critical to successfully implementing this new program.
