Defense and National Security
I will work to ensure Congress fulfills its Constitutional mandate to “provide for the common defense” through providing the necessary funding for our military and providing for the needs of our veterans.
As the United States continues to engage in military operations around the world, we must never forget the many sacrifices that the men and women who defend and protect our freedom continue to make. Nor can we forget the sacrifices made by their families who are left at home to wait for their return. In March, I supported legislation which would provide our military with greater flexibility in allocating resources to meet its operational needs, and require that our government continue tuition assistance programs for our military men and women. Additionally, if implemented, the House budget resolution would fully fund our nation’s commitment to veterans and ensure that our military will be able to carry out future missions, while balancing the budget.
We must make tough choices to balance our budget, but these choices should not be made on the backs of the men and woman that have already given so much. As Congress continues the process of determining the nation’s financial priorities, I will work to ensure our military has the resources it needs and our veterans have the assistance they deserve.

Washington, D.C. – Last week, Iran was afforded another seven-month extension concerning their nuclear proliferation program. Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) made the following statement:
“I am deeply disappointed that the negotiations have given Iran a seven-month extension. These extensions allow Iran to go on with business as usual without any consequences. Once again, the administration has made the United States look weak on the global playing field. Iran’s time is up and it’s time we hold them accountable once and for all.”
Washington, D.C. – Today, the United States House of Representatives voted on an amendment to H.J. Res. 124, which would provide assistance, training, equipment, supplies and sustainment for Syrian rebels to defend the people of Syria from the Islamic State and to ultimately secure territory held by the Syrian opposition. Representative Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) made the following statement:
Washington, D.C. – Today, the United States House of Representatives voted on House Resolution 644, condemning the Obama Administration’s failure to comply with the law which requires the President to give prior notice to Congress before a prisoner exchange. The resolution passed by a vote of 249 to 163. Representative Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) voted for the legislation and made the following statement:
Washington, D.C. – Today, the United States House of Representatives voted on two measures in an effort to curtail the recent influx of unaccompanied alien children (UAC) across the U.S./Mexico Border.
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Republicans held a morning conference to discuss the border crisis. Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) shares his reaction to the meeting and hope for a plan to respond to the crisis:
“At the House Republican conference this morning, we discussed a variety of ideas on how to handle the border crisis. It is very important that we put America first and turn the tap off. There are six tenants I would like to see in the plan that will be announced by House leadership next week:
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood), along with the entire Texas Republican delegation, sent a letter to President Obama imploring him to address the crisis on the border.
In the letter, Texas members urged the President to take five actions in an effort to stem the tide of illegal entry into the United States:
Washington, D.C. – Over the past weekend, Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) traveled down to McAllen, Texas to tour the border with various officials and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Congressman Weber made the following statement regarding his trip:
“On Thursday, I traveled down to McAllen, where I then spent the weekend touring the border with fellow Congressman Louie Gohmert, Senator Ted Cruz, Glenn Beck, Dana Loesch and various Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) officials.

The current crisis at the border is unparalleled in our history. Every day hundreds, if not thousands, of unaccompanied migrant children cross our southern border. Over 50,000 have crossed the border so far this year. The tide shows no sign of stopping with the Department of Homeland Security projecting a total of 100,000 unaccompanied children crossing the border for the fiscal year on September 30. Texas, my home state, has borne the brunt of this flood of immigration, having detained over 37,000 illegal immigrants since the year began.
