2014 Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide annual art competition that allows high school students from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability.  This year’s competition is open to all high school students, but my office will only accept entries from students who are legal residents of the 9th Congressional District of Indiana.

Exceptions will be made for schools who have 7th through 12th grades on one campus. To look up your Congressional District, please visit: http://www.house.gov or call my office at (202) 225-5315.

Artwork will hang in the Capitol for the entire year of the exhibition and cannot be returned to the students earlier. Students should, therefore, submit artwork they will not need for other purposes.

Competition guidelines and a Student Information/Release Form can be found online at http://www.house.gov/content/educate/art_competition and http://www.house.gov/content/educate/art_competition/pdf/student-information-release-form.pdf.

Please ensure that all entries are submitted with a Student Information/Release Form. All entries must meet the following criteria:

  • Be two-dimensional
  • Be no larger than 28 inches wide by 28 inches tall by 4 inches thick
  • Not weigh more than 15 pounds
  • Be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. Copyright law.

All artwork, including a completed Student Information/Release Form, must be received on or before Tuesday, April 15th, 2014. Late entries will not be accepted.

Artwork may be delivered to:

Entries will be scored by a panel of professional artists from Indiana's 9th District.  Additionally, a runner-up will be selected through votes on Young’s Facebook page at http://facebook.com/RepToddYoung. The artist whose work receives the most “Likes” on Facebook will receive a special recognition from the Congressman.  Their work will also be displayed in the Jeffersonville Constituent Service Center for one year.

The winner of the Indiana’s 9th Congressional District art competition will be announced on Wednesday, May 7th, 2014.  The winner will then be flown to Washington D.C. to attend the National Art Competition Reception for all Congressional District Winners in June.
