Congressman Adam Smith

Representing the 9th District of Washington

Transportation and Infrastructure

I firmly believe that investment in our nation's infrastructure is critical. It provides jobs for thousands, ensures the efficient movement of goods that keeps our economy growing, and ensures the safety of countless lives. That's why for the past four sessions of Congress I've introduced legislation creating a grant program for transportation infrastructure projects. The Freight Infrastructure Reinvestment Act (FIRA) focuses on making our road and railways safer by creating a dedicated grant program for infrastructure improvement.

In addition to offering legislation on this topic, I've also supported bills and programs that would help repair, replace, and better regulate our nation's transportation infrastructure, including: H.R. 974, the MOVE Freight Act; H.R. 1906, the Safe Highways and Infrastructure Preservation Act; and full funding of the TIGER grant program. I deeply understand the importance of improving infrastructure in the US, and will continue to work on this at the Federal level while making sure our investments are fiscally responsible.
