Shea-Porter Calls for Department of Justice to Take Leading Role in Investigating VA Scandal
In light of the VA Inspector General internal audit and report into wait times and scheduling practices at the Veterans Health Administration, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder today, requesting that the Department of Justice take the lead in investigating criminal wrongdoing at some of the hospitals in the system. -
In National Defense Authorization Act, Shea-Porter Authors Multiple Provisions to Protect Troops and Grow NH’s Economy
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter authored a number of provisions that passed the U.S. House of Representatives as part of H.R. 4435, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2015.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) today voted in favor of H.R. 647, the Achieving A Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, which passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 404-17. Shea-Porter is a cosponsor of the legislation, which will support children with disabilities by creating a new kind of tax-favored savings account for their future needs.

Today, a group of key Democrats urged the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to expeditiously propose strong rules to crack down on methane waste from oil and gas projects. In a letter to the bureau, Representatives Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) and Diana DeGette (D-CO) joined House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Public Lands and Environmental Regulation Subcommittee Ranking Member Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) to call for robust action to prevent further methane leaks.

Last week, reasonable Republicans and Democrats in Congress came together to finally end the government shutdown and eliminate the threat of default. It was not a perfect solution, but I voted for it because it was a necessary compromise in the face of an unnecessary government shutdown.
