Congressman Brad Schneider

Representing the 10th District of Illinois

Internships

Congressional Intern: Washington, D.C. Office

Intern responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, give tours of the Capitol Building, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Our internship program is open to college students and graduates from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. We seek candidates with strong research, writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules; however, they generally run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. when Congress is in session and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. when Congress is not in session. All internships are part-time, and each intern’s weekly schedule is set at the beginning of the internship. Although interns are unpaid, they gain invaluable work experience.

Internship Terms and Application Deadlines

In order to allow interns the appropriate time to prepare for their semester or summer in Washington, we have set deadlines to submit an intern application. Internship start and end dates are flexible; however, the approximate time frames are listed below.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Michael Wieczorek, our Staff Assistant. Michael can be reached at our main Washington, D.C. office number (202) 225-4835.
