For more than 40 years, we’ve been talking about energy independence and environmental consciousness with far too little to show for it. But now, in this 21st Century global marketplace, advancements in green and renewable energy can revolutionize the way we conduct business and live our lives, as well as create millions of new jobs in the sustainable field. Protecting our environment truly can spark remarkable economic growth.
The energy sector is currently an unbelievably underdeveloped market, and as we move away from overdependence on foreign oil, it is perhaps one of the most important markets we have. Increased domestic energy production from oil, gas and safe nuclear power is a must to achieve independence, but we can no longer solely rely on finite resources, nor can we continue permanently harming our delicate environment and fragile ecosystems. Energy security will be more a result of innovation than exploration. Through continued research and development of green, renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, geothermal, and nuclear, we can move toward reducing, and eventually ending our dependence on fossil fuels that produce harmful green house gases.
Member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition
As a proud member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), Congressman Schneider and his colleagues advocate for policies that will enhance and promote clean-energy technology and boost domestic renewable-energy production. Congressman Schneider and SEEC also support policies to reverse the effects and address the causes of global warming.
Promoting Public-Private Partnerships to Conserve Energy
Congressman Schneider cosponsored the Energy Savings Through Public-Private Partnerships Act, which would expand energy-saving contracts between federal agencies and private-sector companies. With payment coming out of resulting energy savings, these contracts mean no cost to the taxpayer and more than a billion dollars in energy savings. Congressman Schneider is committed to promoting energy-conservation across the country and supports the federal government leading the way.
Supporting Energy Research
Congressman Schneider urged the Appropriations Committee to provide funding for the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, which conducts research and coordinates some of the most promising work in energy innovation. You can read the letter here.
