Rep. Salmon Convenes Hearing Addressing the Administration's Policy on our UAC Crisis

Nov 18, 2014
Press Release

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) convened a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere entitled “Unaccompanied Alien Children: Pressing the Administration for a Strategy.”  He released the following statement on the hearing.

“Just last Friday, Vice-President Joe Biden announced a new refugee program that would enable minors in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras to travel to the United States to reside with parents who are in the United States ‘legally.’  What VP Biden didn’t mention publicly is that among those here ‘legally’ the Administration includes individuals that the President refuses to deport regardless of whether they are here in accordance with our laws or not.

“When the President stood up in the Rose Garden and articulated his intention not to enforce our border laws, America was faced with a surge of illegal immigrants who overwhelmed our resources.  Now, the administration is creating more uncertainty with a program designed to intentionally skirt our laws.  Today’s hearing is a follow-up to our previous investigation of our southern border crisis, and an attempt to ensure full and complete understanding of the Administration’s policies to protect our nation.”

On June 25, 2014, during the height of this summer’s UAC crisis, Rep. Salmon convened a hearing entitled “Children Migrating from Central America: Solving a Humanitarian Crisis.”  A record of that hearing is available here.
