Sarbanes Statement on Veterans Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement commemorating Veterans Day:

“I am humbled by the sacrifices of America’s veterans. For generations, the valiant men and women of our armed forces have safeguarded America’s freedom and democracy. For this, we owe veterans our unwavering debt and our interminable gratitude.

“Importantly, we must also provide our veterans and their families with the benefits they deserve, including high-quality health care, educational opportunities, affordable housing and employment assistance. This means improving the health care services offered by the VA, enhancing veterans’ access to higher education and giving veterans the resources and training they need to secure well-paying jobs.

“Today, we also recognize the determination and courage of our active-duty service members. Day and night, America’s armed forces are promoting liberty around the world while protecting us here at home. I want to extend my deep thanks to our veterans and to our active-duty forces in Maryland and around the country. A grateful nation salutes you.”
