Rocking the Vote!
Dr. Martin Luther King once called the right to vote “civil right number one,” yet there are many reasons why Americans don’t vote – apathy, they don’t know where their polling location is, there are long lines, or they are too busy. Unfortunately, as many as 6 million Americans lose their opportunity to participate in one of America’s greatest democratic traditions simply because they miss the deadline to register.
Today, as we celebrate the third annual National Voter Registration Day, let’s remove one excuse from the list. As our country faces challenges from immigration reform to terrorism, every vote matters, perhaps now more than ever.
I encourage every citizen to make sure their voice is heard this November. Registering is a quick and easy process. Simply go to www.rockthevote.com/register or www.elections.maryland.gov and follow the step-by-step instructions.
